1st Birthday Party

Baby T turned one back in June. Even though he was only 12 months old and probably won’t remember, we still wanted to have a birthday party to gather friends together and celebrate his life.1st Birthday SignWe rented  a daycare for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon where there was a nice garden outside for the kids to play in and a child-friendly open space indoors. Daycare 1st Birthday PartyBaby T really liked the book Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? By Bill Martin and Eric Carle so I decided to go with a theme based on the book. 1st Birthday SignSo we printed off some images from online of the animals in the book – a brown bear, red bird, yellow duck, green frog, blue horse, purple cat, black sheep, white dog, and a gold fish which we hung up on the walls of the daycare. We also blew up some balloons to have for the kids to play with, hung up some pennants that were bright and colorful, and got some matching paper straws. 1st Birthday TableI made some brown bear cupcakes from the barefoot baker site which gave directions and instructions, and then improvised to also make some white dog cupcakes.  Brown Bear CupcakesWhite Dog Cupcakes Brown Bear Cupcakes

I also made a marble cake which we decorated in fondant with some of the animals from the book. Brown Bear Themed Birthday Cake Fondant

And you can’t have a first birthday party without a smash cake for the birthday boy. I threw together a smash cake, which was a huge hit with Baby T and also some of the older babies that were there. They all gathered around cake and enjoyed licking the frosting off of it.

And it was particularly special because my dad was able to come to Italy and be here for Baby T’s first birthday. So he had both his grandpas there to celebrate! 1st Birthday Family Photo 1st Birthday Grandpas 3 Generations1st Birthday Party
